In November 2012 the NYS Public Service Commission instituted a proceeding to evaluate contingency plans for the potential closure of the Indian Point Energy Center later this decade. It evaluated transmission, generation, and demand reduction strategies to deal with the loss of nearly 1,500 MW of power generation in the downstate power supply market. In November, 2013 the Commission ruled to proceed with cost effective demand reduction strategies. Experts explain how to identify opportunities to participate in the new Demand Management program
