Proponents of a robustly rising carbon tax are confident it will spark widespread changes in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to "decarbonize" the economy. Rarely, however, do we consider whether taxing fossil fuels could alter our deep-seated beliefs about resources, communities and our common humanity
