MidCentury (un)Modern: An Environmental Analysis of the Manhattan Office Building

Consider the retrofit potential of single glazed commercial office buildings in Manhattan constructed between the late 1950's and mid-1970's. A new study focuses the architectural and economic challenges to effectively retrofitting this building typology and often overlooked questions of embodied energy. It raises the provocative question: Is it more sustainable to retrofit or to demolish and rebuild these buildings?
