Scaling Up Building Energy Efficiency Retrofits
Thursday, May 2, 2013
By 2014, market share of green retrofits projects is expected to rise to 20-30%, while demand for energy efficiency retrofits has grown to represent a current market investment opportunity of $279 billion and over $1 trillion in potential energy savings over 10 years. This growth is being driven by policies at the state level.
Ramping-up policies, such as the energy efficiency resource standards, will put increased pressure on utilities to achieve energy saving targets and to be creative in their efficiency programs. Scaling the building efficiency retrofits market will need capital as well as mature and effective financing mechanisms. Recently, new financing structures have emerged and may help address such obstacles.
