Advocacy and Community Planning

Advocacy planning began in the 1960’s when urban planners joined the civil rights movement to fight community displacement. Today’s advocates for social & environmental justice work in a broad array of disciplines. Hunter College Center for Community Planning Development’s inaugural forum features Professor Tom Angotti, Univesrsity of Mass.-Boston community planning Professor Marie Kennedy (emeritus), and Los Angeles Mayor’s associate director for the environment Romel Pascual. Pratt Institute Professor Ron Shiffman & NYC Environmental Justice Alliance co-chair Elizabeth Yeampierre are responders.
